Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
Nooks ("we", "our", "the app") is a personal place-tracking application. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
- Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your display name, email address, and profile photo URL from your identity provider.
- Places you save: Place names, addresses, coordinates, tags, ratings, comments, and icons you assign.
- Map preferences: Your last map position and zoom level, for convenience on next visit.
- Tags: Custom categories you create (name and color).
- Photos: Pictures you add to places.
- Social data: Your username, who you follow and who follows you, map edit permissions you grant, and the shared maps you belong to, including the places and notes you add to them. Also the people you block and the reports you send.
- Location: Your current location, only when you tap "My location", to center the map. It is not stored on our servers.
- Device identifiers: A push notification token for each device where you turn notifications on.
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to provide the app's features:
- Display your saved places on the map
- Sync your data across devices
- Enable social features: following people, viewing public maps and collaborating on shared maps
- Send notifications about new followers and activity on your shared maps, if you turn them on
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Authentication: For sign-in. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage: For data and photo storage.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging: For push notifications.
- Google Maps Platform: For map display and place search. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your profile in the app (see how to delete your account). Deletion is immediate. Places and photos you added to a shared map stay with the other members of that map; your notes on them are deleted.
5. Data Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to your data requires authentication via Firebase Auth. We follow industry-standard practices to protect your information.
6. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
7. Your Rights
You can:
- Access all your data through the app
- Edit or delete any saved place, tag, or personal information
- Delete your account entirely
- Contact us for a full data export
